We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lance Corporal Ek Bahadur Gurung, Rifleman Anil Kumar Tamang, Rifleman Anil Rai, and Rifleman Sahil Bishokarma. They raised a total of £681 by organising a haircut charity event in support of the Gurkha Museum Redevelopment Project. In addition to fundraising, their aim was to engage socially, strengthen camaraderie, and foster team cohesion across the company.

This #FundraisingFriday, let’s celebrate the service and sacrifice of the Gurkhas while supporting their strength and spirit. Thank you very much to these dedicated soldiers! 🙏

In November 1965, during The Borneo Confrontation,

In November 1965, during The Borneo Confrontation, Rambahadur Limbu's battalion, the 2nd Battalion of the 10th Princess Mary’s Own Gurkha Rifles, had the mission to capture a strategic hill in Sarawak, Borneo. Rambahadur led the advance and quickly eliminated an enemy sentry. However, his team soon faced heavy enemy fire. It was difficult to communicate with his platoon commander because of the noise, so he bravely returned to report in person.

While this was happening, two members of his fire team were seriously wounded. Rambahadur did not hesitate and crawled under heavy fire to rescue them. He first carried one soldier back to safety and then returned for the second. After rejoining his section, he helped support the assault and killed four more enemy soldiers. In 1966, Queen Elizabeth II awarded Rambahadur Limbu the Victoria Cross.

For over two centuries, Gurkhas have served the Crown with honour, and this annual competition offers a rare glimpse into how these brave soldiers see the world through their own eyes. The Gurkha Museum is honoured to display the winning works in our second-floor gallery, alongside our other temporary exhibition. Huge congratulation to the winners!
