Leave a Legacy Gift

Leave a Legacy Gift

Celebrate Gurkha Heritage by considering a gift in your Will.

With over 200 years of history, The Gurkha Museum honours the heritage and culture of the Gurkha Soldiers and their continuing service to Britain. With a gift in your Will to the Museum, you will help to protect the Museum’s long term plans and enable us to continue to Celebrate Gurkha Heritage

You don’t need to be wealthy to leave a legacy. A gift in your Will, however large or small, will help to secure The Gurkha Museum Trust and its collections and make a positive difference to future generations of visitors and many local people who take part in our learning activities and events every year.

To inform us you would like to leave a gift to the Museum in your Will or for further information and advice please email development@thegurkhamuseum.co.uk or call 01962 842832.

There are three ways to remember The Gurkha Museum Trust in your Will:

  • A cash gift
  • A gift of a specific sum of money to the Museum. You can speak to your solicitor about protecting the value of your gift by directly linking it to the cost of living, so that it doesn’t reduce over time.

  • A specific gift
  • A gift of a specific item to the Museum, such as a property or jewellery.

  • A residuary gift
  • A gift of all or part of what is left of your estate after taxes and debts are paid and all your other legacies have been distributed – known as the ‘residue. ‘Your Will must include instructions for the distribution of your estate’s residue, otherwise the Government will distribute it according to current legislation.

If you do not yet have a Will then we suggest you contact a solicitor who will guide you through the process. We recommend that your Will is drafted by a qualified professional such as a solicitor as their businesses are regulated by law. Once your family and friends are looked after, a solicitor can assist you in leaving a gift to the Museum to support us long into the future. If you already have a Will and would like to make a simple amendment to leave a gift to the Museum, you will need acodicil form. A codicil is a straightforward document that needs to be signed and witnessed in the same way as a Will. It allows you to make amendments to an existing Will instead of completely re-writing it. You download a codicil form below or request one from the Museum by calling Emma Boryer on 01962 842832 or emailing development@thegurkhamuseum.co.uk

You don’t have to choose between looking after your loved ones and supporting the Museum. You can use your Will to do both – for instance by leaving a gift to The Gurkha Museum Trust after friends and family have been provided for. Every gift, no matter how big or small, has the power to make a real and lasting difference to our work.

By remembering The Gurkha Museum Trust in your Will you are remembering the Gurkha solider and helping us to honour all he has done for this country. To talk to us about your plans to leave a gift in your Will to the Museum, or to seek support please call Emma Boryer on 01962 842832.
