COVID-19 Statement

The Gurkha Museum is delighted to welcome back visitors from 8 July.

The health and wellbeing of our visitors and staff remain our highest priority during this time. To help ensure that every visit to the Museum is a safe and enjoyable one, a number of extra measures have been put in place to give all visitors the confidence to explore the museum safely.

Limiting numbers of visitors

To give all visitors adequate space within the museum we will be limiting the number of visitors allowed in each main area of the museum at any one time. All visitors will be asked to respect social distancing on arriving at the museum and will see clear markers in place throughout the viewing galleries to serve as visual reminders. A one-way system will be in place with staggered admittance between all visiting groups in the event of multiple arrivals.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

In line with government guidance all visitors will be required to wear masks or face coverings on entering the Museum. Staff will be issued with personal protective equipment (PPE) to wear when engaging with visitors.

Single-use facemasks are available to visitors who have not brought their own with them. Protective screens will serve as an additional barrier between staff and visitors within the reception and shop areas, with hand-sanitising stations available to visitors at all entry, exit, and till points. Handwashing facilities are also available within the building.

Payment options

Contactless payment is available at both reception and the gift shop, with all card machines sanitised between use. While contactless is the preferred method of payment, cash will still be accepted. All till systems will be wiped down between sales.

Enhanced cleaning routines

The museum will operate an enhanced cleaning routine throughout the viewing galleries, meeting rooms, library and offices. All high-traffic areas and touchpoints will be regularly wiped down and sanitised by staff throughout visiting hours and at the end of each day.

Research facilities and appointments

All visitors wishing to use the museum’s research facilities will be asked to book an appointment ahead of their visit. This is to ensure that we can safely accommodate visitors on a one-on-one basis without an overlap. The research library will be cleaned between each visiting researcher, with books that cannot be adequately sanitised placed in quarantine for a 72hr period after use. To book a research visit or to make an appointment with a member of staff please contact us ahead of your visit.

If you require any further information on the measures we have put in place, or have any concerns prior to your visit or wish to book an appointment please contact us on 01962842832 or email admin@thegurkhamuseum.co.uk.

NHS Test and Trace

In line with Government guidance and to support NHS Test and Trace we kindly request that all visitors supply us with their name and telephone number when visiting the Museum. These details will be handled and safely stored by the Museum in accordance with GDPR, and will be destroyed after 21 days of your visit. For more information on NHS Test and Trace please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works.

The Gurkha Museum has carried out a comprehensive COVID-19 risk assessment, which is available to view on request.
