Colonel WF Shuttlewood OBE
Colonel William Shuttlewood has been a Trustee of the Gurkha Museum Trust since 2016. In 1970 he was commissioned into the 2nd Goorkhas. After a typical grounding as a young officer in the Far East, he undertook a series of staff, Regimental and Brigade appointments in a wide variety of roles and locations. In 1991 he was appointed to command his regiment, serving with his soldiers in UK, Hong Kong and Belize. After subsequent tours of duty on the Staff in England and the United States, he served his final four years in the Army as Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas before retirement in early 2005.
William was subsequently appointed Director, The Gurkha Welfare Trust, a position he held until mid 2016. On final retirement he was appointed Chairman of his Regimental Association and Chair of Trustees of the Regimental Trust.
William brings to the Board a deep knowledge of the Brigade of Gurkhas family in general and the Gurkha soldier in particular, to include his homeland and his heritage. He also has considerable experience of managing a substantial and complex military charity. He was appointed MBE in 1988 and OBE in 1994.
