The Gurkha Museum Trust is proud to honor the contributions of the Gurkhas in 1945 through the Path to Victory series. The Path to Victory series emphasises the service and sacrifices of the #Gurkhas in 1945, featuring a monthly article that corresponds with the anniversaries of major battles involving the Gurkhas leading up to Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day. 🏅🎖️🏆🥇

The countdown to VJ Day started in January and with this month's article following Gurkhas in Mandalay in March 1945. Head over to our Link Tree to read part III of our Path to Victory series.

Did you know The Royal Gurkha Rifles celebrate Meiktila Day on 1st March each year?

In March 1945, in the second world war units of 7th and 10th Gurkha Rifles played a key part in the capture of Meiktila, during the campaign waged by 14th Army in Burma under General Bill Slim to re-conquer Burma from imperial Japan.
