Job Opportunity
Community Engagement and Partnerships Officer
1 x full time post OR 2 x part time (0.5 FTE) posts
For over 200 years, Gurkha soldiers, recruited from Nepal, have loyally served this country, many making the ultimate sacrifice. Through its collections and archives The Gurkha Museum represents a unique and historic relationship, one that continues to this day, with the annual recruitment of Gurkhas from Nepal continuing to be vital for Britain’s Armed Forces.
The Gurkha Museum Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Registration No 1169920). Although the Museum is located in Peninsula Square, Winchester in Hampshire along with four other military museums, The Gurkha Museum has international reach and support. It is open throughout the year Monday-Saturday and receives about 12,000 visitors annually. In addition to the permanent exhibition, reserve collection and archive, the Museum is fully engaged with education and outreach programmes, lectures, events and with trading, and other commercial activities that support its mission
Now at a critical juncture in its history, the Museum has commenced a major redevelopment project (Project Kaida) which will result in a step change in its public engagement, in the presentation and interpretation of its collections, and in digital access to its archive. With Delivery Phase funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) secured, the Museum is seeking to employ either a single full-time position or two part time (0.5 FTE) positions to play a key part in delivering its outreach activity. This is a vital role, within a small and dedicated team, that will focus on designing and delivering the Activity Plan.
The new role will work closely with the Director and Head of Fundraising and Marketing. We are looking for a self-starter who takes a proactive approach to their job, being able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while working collaboratively with the rest of the team. Applications from Nepali speakers would be especially welcome.
For further information, detailed Job Description and Person Specification or an informal discussion, prospective candidates are welcome to contact the Director, Dr Daren Bowyer (Director@TheGurkhaMuseum.co.uk) or Head of Fundraising and Marketing, Emma Boryer (Development@TheGurkhaMuseum.co.uk)
Additional Information and How to Apply:
This is planned as either a full time (37.5 hours/week) or two part time (0.5 FTE) (18.75 hours/week) mainly Monday-Friday with weekend and evening activity.
To apply please send a CV (max 2 pages) and a one page covering letter, explaining your interest and suitability for this role, to admin@thegurkhamuseum.co.uk. Please note that only applications following this route will be considered. Your application should state whether you are seeking the role full time, part-time or either.
Deadline for applications is noon on 24 April 2025 but the Museum reserves the right to close the process earlier if suitable candidates are identified. Interviews are provisionally planned for w/c 6 May 2025. If you will be unavailable at that time, please let us know on your application.
