On the 11 July 1944, at 2130 hrs on this day, Jemadar Gagan Sing Rana led his platoon from D Coy 1st Battalion, 2nd Gurkha Rifles to deal with a troublesome German spandau position near Piantrano in Italy.

One and a half hours later he returned with his platoon, two of whom were wounded, and a petrified German prisoner, having killed twelve of the Germans occupying the position and putting the remainder to flight.

#FundraisingFriday 🌟Meet 8-year-old Jack, who is on a heartfelt mission to raise funds for The Gurkha Museum! 🚴‍♂️ Jack will be undertaking a 7-mile bike ride to symbolise the 7 Gurkha cap badges. He’ll also be hitting 210 golf balls to honour 210 years of rich Gurkha history and passing 80 rugby balls 🏉 to commemorate 80 years since #VJDay. We are genuinely delighted to see a young person so enthusiastic about supporting our small military museum.

🎖️ Gurkha VC: Frank Blaker was born in Punjab

🎖️ Gurkha VC: Frank Blaker was born in Punjab, India, the son of Captain Blaker, who served as a surgeon in the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War I in Mesopotamia. He was commissioned into the Highland Light Infantry at the age of 21 in 1941 and later joined the 3rd Battalion of the 9th Gurkha Rifles in the Arakan region of Burma by May 1942.

Blaker rose to command ‘C’ Company of the battalion and, in July 1943, led them in a fierce engagement, successfully killing sixteen enemy soldiers and capturing three prisoners.

By July 1944, the war had shifted dramatically, with Japanese forces retreating. On July 5th, while marching under Hill 2171, the 3/9GR encountered a group of Japanese soldiers. Blaker led the charge and sustained a grenade wound, reaching within seven yards of a machine gun post before being cut down by a sustained burst of fire. Despite the injury, his men pressed on and ultimately took the machine gun position heartened by Blaker’s bravery and continued cheers to them. They weakened the resistance on Hill 2171 and allowing two companies to capture the area.

Captain Sweetman found Blaker with bullet wounds in his stomach, chest, and shoulder, but he remained conscious and recommended two other soldiers for gallantry. His last words were, "Thank 'C' Company for all they have done for me. Tell them that I have gone from them, but they must go on fighting to the end." Temporary Major Frank Blaker was recommended for a posthumous Victoria Cross and was buried at Taukkyan Military Cemetery on the outskirts of Rangoon, Burma

🌟 #FundraisingFriday: Today, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation to those who dedicate their efforts to raise funds and support our small military museum. 🙏

Dhanyabad to members of the AGC currently serving in the British Forces Brunei (SPS, GSPS, RMP, AWS, ETS) who ran 11 kilometers for three consecutive days, from 16 June to 18 June 2025, achieving a total distance of 33 kilometers individually.
