Insignia
Gurkha regiments have long had an association with Scottish regiments, which began in the 19th century. Officers would often hail from Scotland and Gurkha regiments served alongside Scottish ones at several key battles. This led to a blending of traditions. Gurkha regiments acquired ceremonial trappings such as tartans, highlander shoes and pipe bands. The ceremonial plaid of Gurkha regimental pipers would be held on with ornate brooches such as this one, bearing the insignia and name of their regiment.
