Gurkha Day at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens

Gurkha Day at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens

Gurkha Day at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens brought vibrant Nepalese music, dance, and remembrance to the Chautara once again. A proud celebration of culture, heritage, and community. Thank you to the team for supporting Gurkha and Nepalese traditions in the UK.

Gurkha Day at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens was held on 16 May 2026, marking another year of celebration, remembrance, and cultural pride. Established in 1998, this annual event brings together traditional Nepalese music and dance, alongside a short but poignant remembrance service at the Chautara, where wreaths are laid in honour of those who served.

The day also highlights Nepal’s national flower, the rhododendron, and the Gardens’ dedicated Nepalese Garden, which is home to one of the few remaining Chautaras in the world. This four‑walled, roofless structure reflects the traditional resting places used by mountain porters carrying goods in conical wicker baskets across Nepal’s rugged terrain.

Thank you to the team for their continued support in celebrating and preserving Gurkha and Nepalese culture in the United Kingdom.
