🎖️Dress like a Gurkha at The Gurkha Museum this autumn family activity day! Visit The Gurkha Museum for a fun-packed session of dressing up, constructing, creating and competing against the clock on Wednesday 29 October from 1100 hrs to 1400 hrs.

✔️Try on our uniforms and dress like a soldier! You can take your own photos while wearing them.
✔️Can you fill the webbing against the clock, deciding what to include and what to exclude under time pressure?
✔️Create your own Gurkha soldier and choose how to dress your paper soldier.
✔️Build a Lego camp in the jungle. Can you make it light up?

On the 27 September they took part in Paras’10 which one of the toughest endurance races in the British Army. By the late 1914 during the First World War, the German and Allied armies on the western front were still hoping for decisive breakthrough. From October 10 until 2 November 1914, as a part of the 'Race to the Sea', Battle of La Bassée was fought by German and Franco-British forces in northern France. For Race to the Sea' they had shifted into a series of flanking manoeuvres, each attempting to turn the northern flank of the other.

As a part of it, French towns of La Bassee and Neuve Chapelle were captured by the German, which swung with until the arrival of the Lahore Division of the Indian Corps, which destabilised the line. This battle was the first time that Gurkha soldiers fought in Europe soils, with the first Gurkha casualties occurring on the 30 October 1914.
