A huge thank you to Lance corporal Aashish Gurung and Private Dipen Ghalan for raising an amazing £567 for Project Kaida! 🎉 They took on a fantastic #fundraising challenge for the Gurkha Museum Trust, running a total of 200 km, with each participant running 100 km over 15 days to support Project Kaida. 🌟

Project Kaida aims to transform The Gurkha Museum from a modest military museum into a world-class attraction, making it a global reference point and educational center for #GurkhaHeritage. 💪

📅 #OTD in 80 years ago, Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung displayed unmatched courage during relentless Japanese attacks on the night of May 12/13, 1945

Despite losing fingers to a grenade explosion and suffering severe wounds, he held his ground for hours, single-handedly fending off over 200 attackers. His bravery earned him the #VictoriaCross and preserved his platoon's position🎖️

Let’s remember this hero today and always!

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE day). Just one day after Nazi Germany's surrender on May 8, 1945, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill triumphantly declared that the war in Europe had come to an end.

In 2025, as the nation comes together to commemorate and celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE day) over Nazi Germany and its allies, it is important to acknowledge in May 1945 the war in the Far East against the Japanese continued.

In commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day and in recognition of this significant milestone, The Gurkha Museum Trust has written an insightful article that highlights the remarkable contributions of the Gurkhas during the Second World War. It’s a poignant reminder that on that historic day, May 8, 1945, some Gurkha soldiers were enduring the hardships as Japanese prisoners of war (PoWs).
