Countdown to renovation of the public galleries
The countdown to change has commenced
We invite everyone to visit The Gurkha Museum this summer for the summer exhibition, Victory 1945, and to see the public galleries in their current format for the last time. Also, we are hosting two family days on 5 and 27 August, and a Veterans’ Drop-in on 28 August. All the details on your current and future events are listed here: www.TheGurkhaMuseum.co.uk/WhatsOn.
My countdown
As part of Project Kaida, in September the Gurkhas’ collection will be removed and placed into secure storage, and the tired thirty-year old displays will be stripped out from the public galleries on the ground and first floors. Updates and photographs of the redevelopment will be shared monthly via our e-newsletters, subscribe here to follow our progress: www.TheGurkhaMuseum.co.uk/Newsletter.
If you are unable to visit us this summer, you can take a virtual tour of the public galleries in their current format: www.TheGurkhaMuseum.co.uk/Blog/Virtual-Tour-2/ and compare with the redevelopment plans (seen here at RIBA Stage 3).
Please note:
Throughout the forthcoming redevelopment, known by its Nepali name Project Kaida, The Gurkha Museum will remain open and operational – continuing to preserve, protect, and promote Gurkha heritage. Even when the public galleries (ground and first floors only) undergo essential renovations, the library, research area, and office on the second floor will be open - we will continue our offer of engaging exhibitions, events, lectures and supporting you.
We look forward to welcoming you to our public galleries (ground and first floors) in their current layout for the final time, and throughout August, welcoming you to our summer exhibition (second floor).
